Still duty to be in home quarantine

The Governor reminds that everyone who arrives at Svalbard via airport, port or otherwise has a duty to be in home quarantine for 14 days. The order can be extended after Friday 17 April. This will not be decided until the end of the week. On the basis of national travel advice and because all travellers must in the home quarantines on arrival Svalbard, tourists and other travellers are not advised to travel to Svalbard for the time being.

The Governor extends the quarantine order until 17 April

The Governor extends the order of home quarantine for 14 days to anyone arriving in Svalbard via airport, harbour or by other means. The decision applies to the whole of Svalbard until April 17. If necessary, the order of quarantine can be extended after this date. It is possible to obtain exemptions from the quarantine order.

Extends the quarantine provisions for travellers from the mainland

Stops demolition work in Lia

Due to the weather forecast, with snow and increasing winds from the southeast until tomorrow morning, the Governor in consultation with Skred AS has decided to halt the demolition work in Lia for the time being. It is not currently necessary to evacuate people living in Lia and Nybyen. Home quarantine for everyone who comes to Svalbard

The Governor has decided that all travellers to Svalbard arriving in Ny-Ålesund, Barentsburg, Pyramiden, Svea and Hornsund will be placed in home quarantine for 7 days after arrival. The Longyearbyen Local Council has previously decided that everyone who comes to Longyearbyen should be imposed home quarantine.

Exception from Regulations on expulsion

Foreign nationals residing permanently in Svalbard can pass through the Norwegian mainland when traveling from abroad to Svalbard. The quarantine obligation on the Norwegian mainland due to the Covid 19 situation still applies.
