Regulations and travel restrictions

The Governor of Svalbard assumes that everyone travelling out to different parts of Svalbard have familiarised themselves with relevant laws and regulations for the activity in question and for the areas in which they are travelling.

New environmental regulations from 1 January 2025

Several changes to the environmental regulations on Svalbard came into effect on 1 January 2025. Some of the adopted changes apply to everyone – regardless of whether you are a permanent resident, an individual traveller, a researcher, or engaged in tourism or field activities.
