High avalanche danger in the southern and eastern region


There is a high avalanche danger – danger level 4 – for the southern Svalbard region on Saturday and Sunday. There is danger level 4 for the eastern Svalbard region on Sunday. There is no increased avalanche danger in Longyearbyen itself according to the avalanche forecast from Skred AS.

NVE reports a high avalanche risk for southern Svalbard on Saturday, 1 March and Sunday, 2 March, and for eastern Svalbard on Sunday, 2 March. They warn that large naturally triggered avalanches may occur, and that dry slab avalanches will break loose on their own due to fresh snow and wind.
