Partial evacuation and traffic ban on Road 100 and Road 300
Based on professional assessments from Skred AS and the weather forecasts, the Governor has decided to evacuate certain buildings in Nybyen, as well as a building in Sverdrupbyen. A traffic ban is in effect on the scooter route on the east side (upper side) of Road 100 from Longyearbyen School to and including Nybyen. Road 300 will also be closed from the intersection at Huset up to Gruvelageret.
The Governor has held a meeting this afternoon with Skred AS, Longyearbyen Local Council and NVE about the avalanche danger in Longyearbyen, given today's site-specific avalanche warning that Skred AS has prepared for Longyearbyen.
Based on avalanche assessments and recommendations, the Governor has decided, pursuant to the Police Act, to implement the following measures:
- Evacuation of no.1 on Road 300 in Sverdrupbyen
- Evacuation of Road 101 no. 1B, no. 1C and no. 3 in Nybyen
- Traffic ban on road 300 from Huset and up to Sverdrupbyen
- Traffic ban on the snowmobile trail on the east side (upper side) of road 100 from the school and up along Gruvefjellet to and including Nybyen (Road 100 no. 13).
The traffic ban means that the snowmobile trail on the upper side of Road 100 is closed. The ban does not apply to traffic along the road itself. See also map for details.
The Governor is in continuous contact with Skred AS, Longyearbyen Local Council and NVE. A new meeting between the parties is planned for tomorrow.
