Fine of NOK 10,000 for driving on the tundra
A foreign tourist who drove a car onto the frozen tundra has been fined NOK 10,000 for breaking the rules of the Svalbard Environment Act. The fine has been accepted.

A foreign tourist drove a car out on the frozen tundra and on the ice in the river course in Bjørndalen on Sunday 22 October.
It is prohibited in the Svalbard Environment Act to drive on snow-covered and frozen tundra and frozen rivers with motor vehicles.
The Governor of Svalbard has investigated the matter and imposed a fine of NOK 10,000 on the person. The tourist has accepted the fine.
