Fined for violating the traffic ban in Bjørnøya nature reserve


A captain on a foreign cruise ship has been fined NOK 40,000 for sailing within the no-traffic zone in the Bjørnøya nature reserve. The fine has been accepted.

It was last weekend that the captain of the foreign cruise ship led it through the no-traffic zone in the Bjørnøya nature reserve. The Governor has imposed a fine of NOK 40,000 on the captain for violating the Svalbard Environment Act § 99 first penalty option, cf. § 12, cf. regulations on the protection of Bjørnøya nature reserve § 9, for having violated the provision that in and near the large bird colonies any form of transport is prohibited on land and on water in the period from and including 1 April to and including 31 August.

The captain has accepted the fine.
