Requirements for a valid driver's license in Svalbard
The Governor of Svalbard reminds that people with a foreign driver's license that is valid in their home country can use such a driver's license for the relevant motor vehicle group during their entire stay in Svalbard. However, the driver's license must be of the model required by the Vienna Convention of 1968 on road traffic. International driving licenses are not valid in Svalbard.
This content is more than one year old. The information may therefore be out of date.
The standard requirements for driving licenses according to the Vienna Convention can be found here.
Persons who do not have a valid driver's license according to this standard are also not allowed to drive vehicles that require a driver's license, such as snowmobiles.
An overview of countries that have signed the Vienna Convention can be found here.
Questions about driving licenses are addressed to the Norwegian Road Administration (see link to your right).
