Maintains the evacuation in Nybyen until Monday
Based on assessments from Skred AS and the weather forecasts, the Governor has decided to maintain the evacuation and traffic ban in Nybyen and the residence and traffic ban on the upper side of the buildings in Lia. The evacuation and the ban on residence and traffic apply until Monday. Then a new assessment will be made.

The Governor had a new assessment of the situation on Saturday at 16.00 on Saturday together with Skred AS, Longyearbyen local council and NVE.
Strong southeasterly winds and snow are still reported throughout Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday. Among other things, there may be a danger of cornice fall avalanches that can trigger larger avalanches that can reach the buildings located on the east side of the road in Nybyen. Avalanches can also occur on the mountainside.
There is still a significant risk of avalanches in the terrain. The Governor asks people who are out in the terrain to take their precautions and not travel to areas with risk of avalanches. Follow www.varsom.no.
