Geotop protection area

Festningen geoptop protection area is located at the far end Grønfjorden at the mouth of the Isfjorden. In the well-known Festningen profile, there is a geological layer that has been deposited over hundreds of millions of years. On the eastern side of Festningsodden, fossilized footprints have been found following a dinosaur of the species Iguanodon.
