4/23/2025Spring cleanup in Sjøområdet
Vehicles and scrap metal have been dumped in several places in Longyearbyen over time. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries (NFD), the Governor and the Longyearbyen Local Council (LL) are now taking initiative to clean up, starting with an area in “Sjøområdet” (see photo sketch).

The Governor has now lifted the traffic ban on the upper side of Vei 100.

Based on professional assessments from Skred AS and the weather forecasts, the Governor has decided to continue the residence and traffic ban on the east side (upper side) of Road 100, from Longyearbyen School to Nybyen.

Based on professional assessments from Skred AS and the weather forecasts, the Governor has decided to introduce a residence and traffic ban on the east side (upper side) of Road 100 from Longyearbyen School to Nybyen from Monday 7 April at 8:00 PM.

Press wishing to cover His Majesty King Harald and Her Majesty Queen Sonja's visit to Longyearbyen on June 16 and 17, 2025, must apply for accreditation with the Governor of Svalbard by June 6 at 4:00 PM.
